Kolkata, Feb 18 (IANS) India ended Australia’s seven-year run at the top of the Test rankings as they will finish as the numero uno Test team this year (2009-10) after their emphatic victory against South Africa at Eden Gardens here Thursday. India beat South Africa by an innings and 57 runs to level the series 1-1 and also retain the No.1 position in the Test rankings. It is the first time India have topped the table at the annual cut-off date (April 1) since the rankings were introduced in June 2003. It has been a steady climb by the Indian team as they were ranked sixth in 2004. They were placed third in 2005 and 2006 and finished second last year. India are at 124 ratings points while South Africa stayed second with 120 points. Australia are third with 116 points. India will thus retain the Test championship mace, which it received after defeating Sri Lanka last year in December, and will also pocket a cheque for $175,000. For South Africa, it was heartbreak for the second successive year.

Last year they needed a series-win against Australia to finish at the top of the Test table, but lost the home series 1-2 and finished nine ratings points behind Ricky Ponting’s side. This year, a series win again would have fetched them the top spot. India and South Africa will fight for the second spot in the One-day rankings during the three-match series starting Feb 21. Australia have guaranteed themselves a number-one finish.

The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil’s Triangle, is a region of the northwestern Atlantic Ocean  in which a number of aircraft and surface vessels  are alleged to have disappeared in mysterious circumstances which fall beyond the boundaries of human error pirates, equipment failure, or natural disasters. Popular culture has attributed some of these disappearances to the paranormal, a suspension of the law of physics, or activity by extraterrestrial beings.

It isn’t just airplanes and boats that vanish in the triangle. in 1969, two light keepers in a lighthouse in the area vanished without a trace. their replacement at great issac’s light disappeared four years later. the lighthouse now stands abandoned with no one willing to occupy it.

On halloween, 1991, john verdi and his co-pilot were flying a grunman cougar jet over the triangle. they radioed the nearest tower to request permission to increase altitude as was in their flight plan. tower agreed, and watched as flight n24wj began their assent, then faded off the radar. they didn’t fly out of radar range, didn’t descend, and didn’t radio a mayday. they just vanished. the plane and crew were never recovered.

One of the most famous disappearances was of flight 19, a training flight of five avenger torpedo bombers. on december 5th 1945, the five planes and thirteen men left florida at 2:10 pm. except commander lt. charles taylor, they were all students. an hour and a half into the training mission, the commander radioed in that he was lost and his instruments were not working. snatches of transmissions between the planes were picked up, but they never made it home. the planes and crew were lost at sea and never recovered.

This immense mausoleum was built on the orders of Shah Jahan, the fifth Muslim Mogul emperor, to honor the memory of his beloved late wife. Built out of white marble and standing in formally laid-out walled gardens, the Taj Mahal is regarded as the most perfect jewel of Muslim art in India. The emperor was consequently jailed and, it is said, could then only see the Taj Mahal out of his small cell window.

3. The introduction and training episodes of Ranga character are hilarious.

First half of the film is alright. Second half is little disappointing and is prolonged. The plus points of the film are Prabhas’s makeover and styling as Billa and good production  values. On the flip side, the second half should have been effectively handled. Prabhas has terrific comedy timing in him (Bujjigadu film and pre-interval episode in Billa).

Hope  somebody would make the best use of it the future. We have to wait and see how audiences take Billa.

RamCharan’s Teja’s next Film:

Ram Charan Teja’s ongoing Telugu film Magadheera, directed by S.S. Rajamouli, one the most successful film directors in Tollywood, is slated for an April release. It is produced by Allu Arvind of Geetha Arts, noted Tollywood producer-distributer and maker of recent Bollywood blockbuster Ghajini.

Jr.NTR back in two  months:


Jr. NTR, who was injured during shooting, will be back to work only after two months. He is currently recuperating in the hospital and according to sources,  he has been allowed to leave the hospital after two or three days.

Although he is able to cater to his personal needs personally, doctors have advised him to stay off work for the next 50-60 days. It will take two full months for him to completely recover from the injuries and the doctors have advised him not to engage in any strenuous physical activities.

Jr. NTR was shooting for director V.V. Vinayak for a film planned for release in August. Since he will be able to join the shooting only in June, the film’s release will be delayed.

Mahesh Babu’s next movie (Varudu):

There was a buzz that the voluptuous beauty Anushka ,who is currently riding high with the success of her latest telugu release Arundati , has replaced Parvathi Meltonin Mahesh Babu’s much-anticipated action entertainer Varudu , directed by  Trivikram Srinivas. We  have just confirmed the news and VArudu will beAnushka’s fourth film in 2009 among Siruthai , Vettaikaran, Billa(telugu) .

After tremendous success of Athadu (2005) , Mahesh Babu once again teams up with Director Trivikram Srinivas in VArudu , produced by Singanamala Ramesh under the banner of Kanakarathna Movies. The film will be extensively shot in the pictureque locations of Rajasthan , Nashik and South Africa .The first shedule will be shot in Hyderabad and its longer second schedule will be in Rajasthan.

Varudu will be an action-based romantic entertainer featuring Mahesh in the role of a taxi driver .Notably ,MAhesh Babu’s wife and former Miss India Namrata Shirodkar  will design the costumes for the heroine and look after the make-up for the artists.

Comedian Sunil and Prakashraj have important roles in this film , which is to be cinematographed by  ace Bollywood cameraman Sunil patel of Hum Tum and Bachna  Ae Haseeno  fame. MAnisharma score the music .  Varudu is slated for a july  2009 release.

Oye in May :

Oye is a romantic love story, revolving around how two youngsters get together in the climax by overcoming all hurdles.

After a gap of about 10 years, Shamili, younger sister of Shalini Ajith, comes back to the silver screen as a heroine with his film. It is rumoured that her brother-in-law Ajith advised her to accept this film.

Scripted by Anand Ranga, an associate for the blockbuster hit Bommarillu, Oye has music composed by Yuvanshankar Raja. Oye is the second film by actor Siddharth in 2009, who is on a high after the thumping success of hisKonchem Ishtamga Konchem Kashtam.

New Zealand: The New Zealand cricket team will focus on avoiding a clean sweep against their Indian counterparts on Saturday, when they meet up for the fifth and final one-day international here.New Zealand’s fears after their two Twenty20 victories against India has been punctured. The visitors have blasted the Kiwis into submission in the four one days played so far.

New Zealand’s bowlers have struggled to find the right lengths to contain India’s intimidating top order, let alone pick wickets. The quality of the pitches and sizes of the grounds have also played into India’s hands and that has deprived the series of any kind of competition.

India will have a few selection headaches, but not much to worry about. They may want to shuffle the batting order a bit to give an opportunity to batsmen who haven’t had much to do so far.For New Zealand, their sole focus will be to win and for that to happen, the middle order will have to live up to its potential.
